Product Details

A little history, this fabulous soprano ukelele is inspired by the Harmony Roy Smeck Vita Ukes of the 1920s. Roy Smeck was an American Vaudeville musician and Warner Bros/Vitaphone movie star. His skill on banjo, guitar, lap steel and especially the ukulele earned him the nickname "Wizard of the Strings." Smeck wrote dozens of instruction books, made countless records and was respected enough that Gibson issued the Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe Hawaiian guitar in the early 1930s. However it is the range of instruments that Smeck designed for the Harmony company that are highly prized by collectors and players alike. The Harmony Vita instruments were named in honour of the Vitaphone company who made some of the first talking pictures. The range included distinctive pear shaped 6 string and tenor guitars, mandolins and of course, ukes. They featured unique art-deco soundholes in the shape of perfoming seals, but no-one quite knows exactly why! This is a lovely tribute to The Harmony Vita Uke.
